OSB 3 is a super strong and cost effect particleboard which is often used as an alternative to softwood plywood. The nature of its maufacture keeps cost low and therefore OSB is often cheaper than a comparible coniferous or softwood plywood. OSB is one of the few timber based panel products manufactured in the UK and Ireland for domestic log sources. This makes the board extremely versatile, it can be used in building, summer house or shed building, roofing and flooring in the right applications. Manufacturing process involves the entire log for better resource utilisation making better use of forestry yields. It's made by chipping the logs, drying the chips to a specific moisture content, applying the bonding resins and spreading the chips in alternate directions for each layer. Once the 'mat' is formed it is compressed with heat to form the panel. Before being cut to size the mat is sanded providing a smoother finish which also aids in protecting the moisture content of the panel. The finished board has an attractive golden yellow colour with the cross layed chips visible.
